Three Wines I'm Loving

Good Wine

I love when I find a good wine. And I found three of them! One of wine being local!

From what I read, one glass of wine a night is good for our health. I have maybe half a glass a couple nights in a row and then I forget about it until the weekend. And I'll have MAYBE a full glass. (Not too much now.) Basically I know I can't afford to feel gross from drinking so I just don't get all crazy.

Anyway, I love trying new flavors. When I find one that I really like, I make note of it.

Here are my faves in no particular order:

What wine are you totally loving right now?

Favorite Summer Wine in Minnesota

Cheers from Minnesota
Want to know one of my favorite wines I love right now? I'll give you a hint... it’s a Minnesota wine. I know. What? Frontenac 2011. Score. Minnesota grown and local. How about that support?
Crofut wine = a fave in our house

I like it because it’s not overly sweet. There’s body to it. And it goes well with everything. OK, so it kind of tasted funny after I chewed on a few raw green beans. Crofut Winery is right down the street from us and offered a FREE tasting at our favorite liquor store in Savage, Minnesota.
I swear we’re not crazy booze hounds. Karl laughs because I MAYBE finish a glass of wine, otherwise it’s a sip here and there. I like to be in control of my thoughts, emotions and energy level! If I drink too much I get sleepy, and well…after not sleeping for a year, I cherish sleep.
There you have it. Now go out and buy yourself a bottle and let me know what you think.

Thirsty? Two of my favorite cocktails of the month

Summer is hot and it's time to cool off
I couldn't only pick wine this month. I know... What can I say, summer has been HOT (at least the past couple of weeks) and I have two favorite drinks of choice for the month of July. See below.

Moosehead Light Lime and Riesling
Last month I was craving red wine. This month I'm totally digging white. The reason I like Great Loop Mosel Riesling is it's not as sweet as your usual Riesling. It actually has a little bit of a sour (probably the wrong word) aftertaste, which I love. The wine distributor said it's because the wine was made with 30 percent of the grapes past harvest (meaning some of them had mold on them and looked ugly) but the juice is special. Yes it is!! Go on out and by yourself a bottle. We got ours at Marketplace Liquors in Savage where there is FREE wine tasting every Friday and Saturday (yeah!).

Also one of my new wino friends and favorite 'pourer' at Marketplace told me about this amazing wine guide and now I'm telling you. A must buy for all you tasters and wine lovers out there - De Long's Wine Tasting Notebook.

My second favorite beverage right now is Moosehead with lots of limes. I have always been a fan of Miller Chill, until they made it all light and similar to Bud Light Lime. Moosehead is different and tastes exceptionally well in a frosty mug. So go out and by yourself some of that too!!!

Enjoy! What are you drinking this summer?

My favorite local wine of the month

Delicious local red wine I'm sipping right now

When I first started drinking wine, I loved Riesling.  So much so that my mom had to go out and get me a cool Riesling picture for our living room from Kohl's. (She's seriously the best.) Then I jumped over to loving even sweeter whites. Enter Moscato.

Then we got married and gave everyone in our wedding bottles of Cab Sauv from Matthew Fox (they were seriously $2.99 but REALLY good. Of course I had to make labels for everyone too - see sample below!!!) Then I started to dig Pinot Noir and Shiraz. The list goes on. Then we went to Greece and went to a winery there. And South Africa (hello Pinotage). Then California (Temecula and headed north through San Fran and had a private tour with Jake Fetzer). So I decided I love wine, period!

A local liquor store started offering FREE wine tastings every Friday and Saturday, so Karl and I go and usually buy a bottle every week. As you can guess, our wine rack is overflowing. During the colder months, I realized I jumped back into liking whites a lot. Now, as it gets warmer, I'm digging reds. So weird. My poor palette is all mixed up.

Last weekend on the way back from Karl's parent's cabin, we stopped at Winehaven. It's a local winery in Chisago, Minnesota. There were over 20 wines to sample. All GOOD wines, I might add. I recommend going there and trying them all. And better yet, it's all FREE sampling.

Anyway, we ended up buying a red. I don't know what it is about this wine, but I LOVE it. It reminds me of eating grapes off the vine. It's sweet but dry, and just awesome. I highly recommend trying it and let me know what you think!! Below is the description on the tasting sheet!

Deer Garden Red
A semi-sweet wine with bright cherry aromas and flavors. One-of-a-kind from our patented Chisago grapes! Silver Medal Winner 2011.

One of the wine labels I made for our entire wedding party!
